Shuri Station area

A Rinzai Zen temple of the Myoshinji branch, in the residential streets of Gibo. Founded in Kume in the first year of the Meiji era, it moved to its present site in the late Meiji period and was rebuilt after the Battle of Okinawa. It is one of the twelve zodiac temples on Shuri's “Teramai” pilgrimage, enshrining the guardian buddhas of those born in the Year of the Ox, Tiger, or Rooster, and quiet worshippers born in those years visit to press their palms together at Lunar New Year. Set away from the bustle of the sightseeing areas, it is a temple close to everyday life in Shuri.
