Ryutan Pond area
The remains of a temple founded in 1494, once the head temple of the Rinzai Zen sect in the Ryukyus. It flourished as the mortuary temple of the Second Sho Dynasty but was destroyed in the Battle of Okinawa. The main gate and the Hojobashi bridge are now being restored, and from the edge of Ryutan Pond you can trace the outline of the temple complex as it once stood.
